Getting a few bits accurate is far easier and that is why newer DACs perform so much better. We have learned to use signal processing to upsample audio to higher rates as to not need 24 bit R2R anymore as used here. Bur-Brown (TI) would still be making these DAC chips if they had merit. What this fascination is with older DAC technology, I never know. I wish Tom continued success with the business.There is no getting around the simple message that you are paying a ton more, but getting far less fidelity. Tom is a fantastic dealer and you can always count on him no matter what. In summary, I am very satisfied Audio Essence. I was intrigued by the fact Empire Ears supplies one of my favorite bands, Black Pink, with IEMS. I listen to a lot of pop, RnB (90s, 2000s), K-Pop and classical music. He was never demanding and left me with enough room to decide on my own. As I tested more and more, Thomas was always there to help me and give me advice. I was able to demo the IEMs and really get a feel for what they were like. I am new to the IEM scene and Thomas provide me with a ton of information that allowed me to get to know all the different products Empire Ears offers. Thomas has a very deep understanding of sound, Empire Ears IEMs and customer service. I wanted something more high quality and was lucky enough to find Thomas and his shop. I was fortunate enough to buy the Odin and the Valkyrie MK II from Thomas. I recently purchased 2 pairs of Empire Ears IEMs from my local dealer, Thomas / Audio Essence. Excellent service, for which I am very grateful. Even though I did not end up purchasing Valkyria, Tom has become a dear friend who is always welcome in my home, to talk about life and audio. He was able to address all of my concerns / feedback, speak and advocate on my behalf with the manufacturers, but also get their commitment to customize the product to my linking. To me, it is unheard of someone having this close relationship with a dealer, and dealer to be as well integrated with manufacturer as Tom is. Not only Tom allowed me to borrow his demo for a week, he personally drove to my house, spent hours talking to me about audio, and when I was done listening, he picked it up and chatted with some more. When I saw Spirit Torino Valkyria, being twice of the cost of Hifiman Susvara or Abyss AB-1266 TC, I just knew I had to listen to it. This means auditioning some of the most expensive gear out there, comparing notes and talking to others. I have been on a personal journey to build the best headphone system I can.
